Risk management has been around for a long time, and has matured as a process along the way. However, the fundamentals haven’t changed much in that time, except perhaps the inclusion of opportunities and increased sophistication of risk tools, and the recognition of tailoring the process to suit different situations.

As with all processes, the need to improve, to find unique ways of putting across the message and to sell it within a company or to other organisations has led to a ‘muddying of the waters’. Instead of being a value adding process that is quite simple to apply, it has become an add-on process that is far too complicated. The explanation that life, organisations and the world are more complex these days is not a good excuse, as we need a strong risk management process that can help us see through this complexity to make better decisions; not to make it more difficult.

A number of speakers will talk us through the approach and tools they use to manage risk within their organisations, and what they have planned in the next phase of risk management. Speakers represent a diverse number of organisations including Gazprom.

Managing Reputational Risk

Reputation is the general belief or opinion that other industries or people have about the company. It is how you are considered or labelled - good or bad. Protecting your company’s reputation and brand is a major challenge but I can be manageable through good risk management and business continuity. Reputational risk is not one single risk but the impact of a number of risks.
