Course overview

The IRM International Diploma in Risk Management is a broadly based post-graduate level qualification.

It is unique, as it has been developed through extensive collaboration between leading educational thinkers and academics, in partnership with risk practitioners from across the world.

Offered on a part time, flexible, distance learning basis, it offers students throughout the world the opportunity to obtain an internationally recognised risk qualification which is both academically rigorous and also designed to give professionals the practical skills necessary to work in risk management, in any sector.

 
IRM membership

The Diploma leads to more than just a qualification. Completion offers the entry route to IRM membership which, is a sign to potential employers of an individual’s commitment to continued professional development and to a code of professional practice.

In addition, IRM student and professional membership grades will provide you with extensive benefits relevant to working risk professionals together with valuable networking opportunities.

 
Diploma structure

To successfully complete the IRM Diploma, students must complete:

  • All five level 1 core modules
  • Two of the level 2 specialisms
  • The practical assignment

Core modules

per subject module:

- a three hour exam

Universally applicable risk management knowledge and skills.

Key concepts, models, codes, tools and techniques used in enterprise-wide risk management.

2:

Specialisms

per subject module:

- a three hour exam

Specific technical disciplines and/or business sectors.

Two modules are chosen from a range of options, enabling a student to tailor the course to their own role or environment.

Practical assignment

8000 word essay

Application of skills and knowledge learned in levels 1 and 2.

 

 
Taking single subjects
IRM subject modules may also be taken as stand-alone modules, outside of the Diploma qualification. A certificate of completion will be awarded to successful students.
 
Entry requirements

You are eligible to study for the Diploma if you have:

  • IRM Certificant through passing the IRM Certificate in Risk Management

Or

  • A first degree, at least a 2:2 from a UK university, or an equivalent qualification from a non-UK institution

Or

  • An equivalent level professional qualification and at least 3 years risk management or associated experience

Or

  • No formal qualifications, but more than 3 years risk management experience at a managerial level

Where can the Diploma be taken?
The Diploma is completed by distance learning. The Institute currently has examination centres in over 30 countries worldwide. If there is no centre in your country, IRM can assist students in setting up a special centre. For more details, see Examination Centres
