| Student membership is available to those wishing to study for one of our qualifications:
International Certificate in Risk Management
International Diploma in Risk Management
Risk Management in Financial Services

Students who successfully complete the International Diploma become voting members of IRM in recognition of their achievement. They are also entitled to use the designatory letters MIRM.
Students who successfully complete the International Certificate are entitled to use the designatory letters CIRM.
Students who complete the Risk Management in Financial Services qualification may apply for Specialist membership of the Institute and the designatory letters SIRM.
Entry requirements
There are no entry requirements for the International Certificate programme.
There are no formal entry requirements for the Risk Management in Financial Services qualification
however, students are expected to have some knowledge of risk management tools and techniques.
To be eligible to study the International Diploma you need either:
- IRM's International Certificate in Risk Management, or
- a first degree from a UK university, or the equivalent from a non UK university/college, or
- a recognised equivalent professional qualification and at least 3 years risk management associated experience, or
- no formal qualifications but more than three years risk management experience.
University Students - free Student membership
You may apply for free Student membership of IRM if you are either currently enrolled on one of the following post graduate courses, or as a second or third year student on one of the degree courses.
