The role

Internal Audit and Risk Management is the centre of excellence for risk management and assurance within Royal Mail. We are looking for an experienced commercially driven risk professional who can drive and influence risk management practice at executive level across a complex international organisation with over 184,000 employees and a turnover in excess of £9bn.  

Working collaboratively as part of a small risk management team and in a high-profile role, your job will be to support the delivery of a sustainable enterprise-wide approach to risk management and develop a risk-aware culture embedded in both strategic and day-to-day decision making. You will be responsible for providing leadership and support for the development and delivery of the Group’s risk management framework.

You will design and implement commercially focused risk management techniques to identify, assess, manage, monitor and communicate risks, and work in partnership with business units’ risk champions to drive and monitor progress against those units’ most significant risks.  You will also play a key role in the delivery of a risk management training plan for senior managers and work with them to cascade risk management competence through the organisation. Additionally, you will support the development and delivery of Internal Audit & Risk Management’s annual plan, including the planning and execution of certain risk-based reviews.

The person

A proven track record in the theory and practical application of risk management in a complex operating environment, supported by a relevant professional qualification is essential.  You will be a self motivated team player with strong interpersonal skills able to develop effective working relationships with senior executives. You will also need confidence, presence and determination to succeed in a demanding business environment.
