Senior Associates – Retail Firms Division – Building Societies Department

Canary Wharf, London |
| Salary: |
£50,000 - £80,000 + benefits |
The Financial Services Authority’s (FSA’s) Building Societies Department, part of its Retail Firms Division, regulates all but two of the remaining 53 societies in the UK. We are currently looking to recruit a number of Regulatory Grade C Associates.
These roles are central to the implementation of the FSA’s enhanced supervisory programme and offer the holder the opportunity to influence a firm’s senior management to focus and deal with risks on our agenda and to deliver better outcomes for consumers.
Working within one of our supervisory teams, you’ll be joining us at an extremely exciting and challenging time. Making tough decisions with long-term ramifications, you’ll be supervising a range of firms on an intense basis, assessing risks inherent in business models, financial measures, baseline viability, liquidity and capital.
Owning the FSA relationship with one society, or possibly even a group of societies, you’ll develop and maintain effective relationships with senior management, influencing or challenging their approach wherever necessary. Gathering and analysing a wide range of information on your firms, you’ll assess their key weaknesses and identify key areas of risk mitigation to focus on.
Your accountancy, auditing, risk management or financial analytic background will give you a good understanding of the FSA’s prudential approach to supervising firms. You’ll already have experience of working within the retail deposit-taking and/or mortgage lending industry preferably in a finance, audit, risk management or other business control function. Preferably you will have a relevant professional qualification e.g. ACA, ACIB, MIIA, IDRM.
Beyond these technical skills, you’ll need the tenacity and resilience to thrive under pressure and react quickly to rapidly changing priorities. Clearly, you’ll also need the confident, robust interpersonal skills to build strong relationships and the ability to plan and deliver effective outcomes.
