The School of Medicine and Dentistry is seeking to recruit a suitably qualified and experienced individual to lead its newly created Centre for Risk Management in Healthcare and Education Research. This is an innovative, collaborative Centre, Funded by HEFCE and supported by the Institute of Risk Management, the National Patient Safety Agency City University, Barts and the London NHS Trust and the City and Hackney Teaching Primary Care Trust, whose aim is to improve the management, understanding and communication of risk in the activities of Medical and other healthcare related institutions in England.

Applicants should have substantial risk management experience. Experience of or keen interest in health sector risk management is essential. The Director will work closely with the Research Governance team within the Joint R&D Office and will be responsible for the development of a portfolio of risk management training courses and modules covering all aspects of clinical and research activity. These courses and modules will initially be directed at the participating partners’ staff extending current training in risk management to postgraduate and undergraduate student. By developing such resources in e-learning and video formats the aim is to extend its activities to other institutions thereby creating a network of risk management champions.

The Director will be responsible for the promotion of the Centre to a wide range of external agencies and will establish the Centre as a centre of excellence and reference for healthcare risk. The Director will initially have direct line management responsibility for 1 trainer.
